GoMila accesses your location in the background to enable the core "Territory Conquest" feature. To validate that you have passed through a specific zone and assign you the corresponding ranking, tracking must be uninterrupted — allowing you to pocket your phone while walking. You can stop tracking at any time by ending the walk in the app.
General Information
GoMila ("the app", "we", "us") is a mobile application for tracking and managing dog walks. This policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.
By using GoMila, you agree to the terms described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Data We Collect
GoMila collects only the data necessary for its operation:
- Foreground GPS location: when the app is open and active.
- Background GPS location: during an active walk you have started, even when the app is not visible on screen.
- Walk data: recorded route, total distance, duration, and start/end time.
- User account: email address and password (if you create an account).
- Gamification data: We store information about geographic zones transited to calculate user rankings, conquest points, and territory statistics per neighborhood.
We do not collect contacts, camera, microphone, or any other device data unrelated to walks.
Background Location Usage
GoMila requests Android's ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION permission to enable the core "Territory Conquest" feature. To validate that the user has passed through a specific zone and assign the corresponding ranking, tracking must be uninterrupted. This permission is activated only when the user starts a walk from the app and is automatically deactivated when the walk ends.
Without background access, the app cannot confirm zone transit if the user turns off the screen during a walk, which would invalidate territory conquest.
Location data collected in the background:
- Is used to record the walk route and validate conquered zones.
- Is used to calculate the user's ranking within their neighborhood.
- Is not shared with third parties for advertising or external analytics.
- Is not sold or used for any purpose other than those described in this policy.
How We Use Your Data
We use your data to:
- Display the walk route in real time on the map.
- Calculate distance, duration, and activity metrics.
- Store walk history in your personal account.
- Improve the overall performance of the app.
Storage and Security
Data is stored on secure Google Firebase servers (Firebase Firestore / Firebase Authentication), under Google Cloud security standards. All data transmission uses encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no system is 100% infallible. If we detect a security breach affecting your data, we will notify you in accordance with applicable laws.
Sharing Data with Third Parties
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for commercial purposes. The only third-party services that process your data are:
- Google Firebase — authentication and database (app infrastructure).
- Google Maps SDK — map display during the walk.
These services have their own privacy policies aligned with applicable data protection laws.
Your Rights
As a user, you have the right to:
- Access all data GoMila holds about you.
- Correct inaccurate information in your profile.
- Delete your account and all associated data at any time.
- Revoke the location permission from your Android device settings.

Children's Privacy
